Świder wrote this neo-classical work for the 7th Woodwind Chamber Music Festival at the Academy of Music in Katowice. Members of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice premiered it on December 8, 1993. After the premiere, the piece was left un-played, and in 2005 Świder revised it and attached two additional movements to the work: Imitazione and Polonaise. This revised piece remained (un-played) in the composer’s library and was premiered 11 years later on December 7, 2016, at the Józef Świder Festival in Cieszyn.
Clear texture and traditional forms characterize the piece, while the titles of each movement suggest the style. The first two movements have the melody predominantly in one voice with the other four instruments accompanying often in rhythmical unison. The Cantabile movement presents a beautiful duet between the flute and horn. The very rhythmical final movement, Scherzo Finale, concludes the composition with the same rhythmical patterns that are found throughout the piece.
There is no great technical difficulty in this composition; however the ensemble will be challenged by the dynamic expression demanded from the composer through very specific markings.
