The work was written for the Warsaw Wind Quintet Da Camera, and premiered at the XIV Polish Contemporary Music Festival in Wrocław in 1984. The composition was revised by the composer in October 2011, and is in his library.
The work is very vibrant, light, full of color and texture changes, not only between the movements, but also within each movement. Each voice is employed in a meaningful way. Many times there are a lot of different melodies and contra melodies played at the same time. The composition represents traditional neoclassical writing with major-minor oscillations, diminution and imitations. The composition seems to flow from one scene to another, stretching the melodic tension between the bar lines. Each movement also flows into the other, and the there is more of a mood change rather than a classic contrast between parts of the piece.
The work is rhythmically difficult with multiple rhythms played at the same time. Thus it demands ensemble rhythmic precision. There is also extensive line passing between the instruments, which in turn need to be done well to make this piece sound effortless.
